Carol Berger - EWGA Member since 2009; Chapter Treasurer
Hi everybody! My name is Carol Berger and I’ve been asked to write a short profile about myself. Let me say from the beginning, writing is not my favorite thing to do. Hmmmm….maybe that’s why I ended up in the accounting field, more black and white (good – Yay!) and less flowery prose (bad – Boo!). Although……..it’s been said……..I can make numbers tell a story.
I learned how to swing a club when I was about 9 years old. My Mom and Dad played golf and they thought it would be a good idea for both my older brothers to take golf lessons. I’m guessing (and by guessing I mean hoping), that way back
then, there were no golf lessons for girls, otherwise, I’m SURE they would have enrolled me too! (For the record - no, I’m not bitter at all.) Anyhoo, my brothers would come home every day and show me what they learned, the grip, the back swing, the follow through, etc. Then the whole family would head out to the golf course and play a round. Now, if you kept up with the math, we would make a fivesome and that would be against the rules. Being the good disciplined military family that we were, we didn’t break the rules. That meant, Mom, Dad, and my brothers got to play, while Carol got to walk along and look for golf balls. If it was empty on the golf course, I was allowed to play the par threes. It was awesome! I loved the time we spent as a family and the time we STILL spend as a family golfing. And while, Mom can’t play anymore, my brothers, my dad and I still play every time we get together as a family. Unfortunately, because we are scattered about the country, it’s not often enough.
I look forward to this next year with the EWGA. As treasurer, I will provide the support the rest of the board needs to continue to offer wonderful golf opportunities for our membership. I especially look forward to the Dixie Cup this year. I encourage all of you to consider this match play event where the chapters from Atlanta, Birmingham, Tennessee and Kentucky (Heart of the South – H.O.T.S.) challenge the chapters from North and South Carolina. I can attest it is a great event!
I look forward to seeing all of you at Kick Off!!
